Samir Khanal

Samir Kumar Khanal is currently a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at Iowa State University. He is also a Faculty Affiliate for the Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies at Iowa State. Before obtaining these positions, Khanal was a post-doctoral research associate for two years in the same department. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Iowa and conducts research on application of bioprocess engineering for wastewater/waste treatment with recovery of value-added products and bioenergy. Dr. Khanal has authored over 20 research papers.

Khanal has authored over 20 research papers and was recently a visiting research professor at the Asian Institute of Technology. He has also been an invited speaker at the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, Malaysia University of Science and Technology, and the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. Khanal received his B.E. in Civil Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology in India, his M.Eng. in Environmental Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
